This last week at our farm has been intense. It’s been all about the swales.

Silent but not quiet

Things have been conspicuously silent on both the RLH and TA blogs but I can assure you, life has been anything but quiet. In fact, it’s been all systems go for some weeks now, particularly this last week.

Managing the trees

Managing the grass

Twinny Acres is currently twenty acres of farmland or pasture. Aside from a few trees in a loose wind break and a dam there is grass. Given that it’s now spring here, the grass is starting to grow.

Taking on twenty acres is a big task. For someone who grew up on the 1/4 acre suburban block, moving to 1/2 an acre here has been a challenge at times. Have we bitten off more than we can chew with purchasing 20 acres? If I am honest with myself, late at night when the darkness crowds in and there’s nothing to distract me, the doubts sidle up alongside and I ask myself this. But the truth of the matter is, only time will tell and I am determined to succeed.

I figured that I’d better put my money where my mouth is and actually start up the new blog. So here we are and here it is.

Twinny Acres. Yep, that’s what we’re calling the new place. It’s twenty acres after all and we are the Twinn family. It works.

So, as we develop what amounts to nearly empty pasture into an active, sustainable and hopefully profitable permaculture farm, I’ll keep you updated on the journey.

It’s exciting times here for us all and there are some days we work from dawn til dusk (hang on, we do that with the kids already) but other days, much like today, demand to be a down day. That means research and plan if you didn’t realise. No such thing as a day off here.
